New EPC minimum standards legislation coming into force 1st April 2018
From the 1st April 2018 Landlords and Agents will no longer be able to agree new tenancies or renew existing tenancies for properties with an EPC rating of band F or G.
Where a Landlord wishes to continue letting their property which is currently 'sub-standard', they will first need to ensure that energy efficiency improvements are made which raise the rating to a minimum of a band E.
Landlords found to be letting sub-standard property after 1st April 2018 could be fined up to £5,000 for non-compliance. Offending Landlords will also be required to then bring their property up to the required standard.
The government will be producing more detailed documentation shortly relating to this and we will be updating this blog at that time with the link to this information and contacting all Landlords whose properties fall outside the new requirements direct.
